What Is Stamp Duty?

Every time you purchase a new property, the state government requires a tax, called Stamp Duty, to be paid. This tax is required on every property whatever the reason for purchase.

The government assesses the amount of Stamp Duty payable based on the selling price of the property you’re buying.

Each state government uses a different set of rules and calculations, making it difficult to work out how much you’ll have to pay.
